  1. This week I learned to pay attention to my listening process. Previously I never really though about listening as a skill, but more as something that I just do. I now realize that listening is a valuable skill that can be practiced and improved upon. I also learned that I am not as good at listening than I thought previously. I used to think I was a good enough listener and I didn't really need to focus on developing my listening ability. Now I see that I might be missing out on valuable information because of my listening shortcomings.

  2. This week I learned that listening is something that you have to be consciously aware of. It is a process that requires effort. To be a successful listener, you have to know what to do to effectively comprehend and respond to the speaker. I have realized that my methods for listening should be different depending on the situation. For example, listening in class requires more comprehension and listening to a friend involves more response. This week I also learned that I am constantly being affected by rhetoric. Rhetoric is in everyday things, such as signs and videos. I have learned to pay more attention to my effort to listen and what is used to persuade me.

  4. This week I learned that my listening process is not as good as I thought. However, I did learn that I can improve my listening skills by following new steps that I have learned. I use different listening techniques depending on the situation I am in. If I am in class, I have a difficult time staying focused, but if I am engaged in conversation, it is easier for me to stay focused on the topic. I also learned that rhetoric is applied in my life every day. Everywhere I go, there are signs and people persuading me to feel a certain way about something.

  5. This week I learned that I have a listening processes in my head that I can't really explain. It's easy for me to think about it and do but it's harder to put it into words or a stepped process. I can focus myself and run it through in my head without thinking about it, but I still need practice with it. I don't have an amazing track record of listening fully and staying focused on the task at hand, but I think I can improve that with a bit of practice. My biggest lesson this week is a bit counter intuitive, but sometimes listening to everything that is said isn't the best way to go, it'll bog you down and you won't be able to focus on what's important.

  6. This week in class I learned listening is a skill that can be practice and fine-tuned like other skills. This could be completed by making a plan before listening to an individual and reflecting on what you did well and what could use improvement. In addition to this, I learned that my listening skills could be improved individually. I need recognize better what information is truly important to me and to listen more attentively when appropriately.
